IT'S COMPETITION TIME!!!

Join us for the 11th annual 1000 Islands International Piano Competition for Young People.

THE PRELUDE - The festivities start with a gala fundraising event sponsored by the Arts Council.  The event will take place at Maple Grove Estate, 596 West Broadway, Cape Vincent,  NY, on September 4th, from 6 to 8 pm. The celebration will feature champagne, appetizers, deserts and a piano performance by Brian Preston, artistic director of the competition.  Tickets are $35 and are limited to 80. Tickets may be purchased from Arts Council Members, the Cape Vincent Liquor Store, or by calling the Arts Council at 315-654-2413.

THE COMPETITION - Starting Friday, September 6, and running through Sunday, September 8th, the competition will be held  under a tent at Maple Grove, 596 West Broadway, Cape Vincent, NY. 
 
This year 16 pianists will compete in 2 divisions: Junior (under age 19) and Senior (19 - 25). Contestants this year come from as far away as China and as close as Rochester, NY.
 
Each day the competition will begin at 9 am with the Junior Division performing first. A lunch break will be held around noon, on Friday and Saturday the competition will resume around 1 pm until late afternoon. Sunday's competition  finishes around noon. After the lunch break, winners will be announced.
 
On Friday, pianists will perform selections of their choice from baroque, classical and 20th - 21st century music. On Saturday, pianists must include a major Chopin work in their programs. Sunday's performance must be an all Chopin collection of work.
 
This event is free and open to the public. Audience members may enter and exit between each pianist's performance. While the event is held under a tent, attendees may bring their own lawn chair and sit outside the tent.
